The EHR councils represent each of the functional areas of the system. Each council is responsible for reviewing and finalizing the design of nationally standardized clinical and business processes for the new Federal EHR.
Of the more than 1,200 subject matter experts contributing to the councils, 60% were enlisted from the field to ensure input from practicing Veterans Health Administration (VHA) providers and other staff. The remaining council participants are from VA Central Office (VACO) and provide organizational alignment.
