VA’s Federal EHR: Things Every Veteran Can Do to Prepare

There are a few things Veterans can do to prepare for the transition to the Federal EHR at their local VA medical center, like making appointments and refilling prescriptions early, knowing how to use secure messaging, and making sure their contact information is up to date.

Health Portal Resources

Veterans who receive care at VA facilities that will deploy the Federal EHR in 2026 or later will continue to manage their VA health care through My HealtheVet on VA.gov and the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app — the same place they manage their other VA benefits and services. This includes all VA facilities not listed on this page below. Visit Manage your health care with My HealtheVet for more information and resources.

Veterans that receive care at the following VA medical centers (and their associated clinics) that deployed the Federal EHR before 2026 will transition from using the My VA Health patient portal to using My HealtheVet on VA.gov and/or the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app.

  • Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane, Washington
  • Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington
  • VA Central Ohio Health Care System in Columbus, Ohio
  • Roseburg VA Health Care System in Roseburg, Oregon
  • VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics in White City, Oregon
  • Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois

To learn more about what to expect with this transition, visit My HealtheVet on VA.gov: What to know or read the info sheet on VA’s new unified health portal.

Note: We’ll retire the My VA Health portal on May 29, 2026. We encourage all Veterans to start using My HealtheVet on VA.gov and the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app now to be ready for this change. If you still need information on My VA Health, visit My VA Health Patient Portal Reference Materials.
