The health care ecosystem in the United States is extraordinarily complex, touching multiple government jurisdictions, hospitals, doctors’ offices, insurers, pharmacies and myriad other health enterprises. Add to this an unwieldy regulatory structure, and it is easy to see tremendous opportunities for today’s advanced technologies to make appreciable improvements in the delivery of health care services to veterans, servicemen and women, all Americans.
Health care is a target-rich environment for technology applications that collect, organize, distribute, manage and utilize data in real-time to cut costs, increase efficiency and improve health care services. Electronic health records, smart hospitals, mobile applications, wearables, telehealth – technology already was driving health care innovation. COVID accelerated it at breakneck speed.
