Jesse Flores, Supervisory Risk Analyst
Jesse Flores has been in the IT industry for 23 years. He joined the Office of Information and Technology (OIT) 21 years ago and currently works in the Quality, Performance, and Risk division. As a Risk Analyst, Mr. Flores supports OIT senior leaders with risk management by increasing business process efficiency, promoting collaboration, and facilitating communication with OIT customers. Mr. Flores is a 5-year U.S. Navy Veteran and served aboard the U.S.S. Nimitz CVN-68, a U.S. Navy Supercarrier. Mr. Flores comes from a family of Veterans, including his grandfather who served during World War II.
How did you choose the IT field and why?
I chose the IT field because I have always had an interest in computers and technology since I was very young. After leaving the U.S. Navy and during my last year of college, I was selected for a VA OIT Internship at the Austin Data Processing Center. That internship led to my 21-year career with VA OIT.
Why do you believe Hispanic Heritage Month is important to recognize?
Hispanic Heritage Month highlights the contributions that Hispanic Americans have made to VA’s mission and illustrates to newer Hispanic employees that they have a future with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Hispanic culture is heavily steeped in family, tradition, and respect. I truly feel these shared values are what make many of VA’s Hispanic employees so dedicated to the care of our Veterans.
