This Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM) will explore critical issues and usable solutions regarding privacy challenges that MITRE and its sponsors are encountering, AI ethics, and the use of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs). Increasing scale, scope, and complexity has made an already challenging environment even more so. In a panel discussion, MITRE sponsors will relate the nature of some of those challenges and how they are responding to them. Among those leading-edge challenges are recent developments in AI, surfacing a number of privacy-related issues, including ethical ones related to data appropriation and differential treatment. Many are looking to PETs to help address these problems, but some of that optimism might be misplaced in the face of structural impediments to effective PET selection and implementation. This TEM will highlight how good outcomes have been or could be achieved while taking note of work that remains.
A panel of government sponsors from different organizations with varying missions will speak about privacy challenges they encountered, how they successfully addressed the challenges, and what is on their privacy wish lists.
