For the second consecutive year, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information and Technology (OIT) was named on Foundry’s Computerworld 2023 Best Places to Work in IT list, ranking 58th among large organizations. Celebrated for having an industry-leading organizational culture, the Department was recognized for cultivating a collaborative workplace environment where employees felt valued, supported and empowered. The 29th annual report surveyed large, midsize and small organizations to discover the best information technology (IT) employers from around the world.
“To be selected as one of the top global IT companies is an incredible honor. Over the past 12 months, OIT has created opportunities to invest in its people and provide best-in-class employee experiences so each team member could bring — and be — their best self each day,” said Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology and Chief Information Officer Kurt DelBene. “From increasing accessibly and reasonable accommodation awareness to prioritizing DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) initiatives, OIT encouraged each person to feel comfortable showing up and thriving as their authentic selves. By embracing a human-center approach for people excellence, OIT saw a direct correlation to job engagement and improved service delivery, which resulted in the Department’s IT Customer Satisfaction Scores Continuing to Rise,” added Mr. DelBene.
Moving forward, Director of People Science Nathan Tierney is looking to attract the next generation of technology leaders through VA’s high-tech workforce education and IT recruitment activities:
- Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program in partnership with the White House and the Department of Labor;
- Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC); and
- Vocational Readiness and Employment (VR&E).
