Michelle Ranes serves as an Information Technology Specialist with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and is responsible for the creative development and maintenance of numerous VA websites. Michelle celebrated her 45th civil service anniversary with VA in October 2024. She started her career as a volunteer at the Little Rock, AR, VA Medical Center at the age of 15.
Michelle was raised in a family of military service members and VA employees who knew the importance of honoring those who have borne the battle. Throughout her career, she has worked at seven medical centers nationwide in clerical support, timekeeping, inventory management, purchasing, contracting, acquisition policy, acquisition training, eCommerce, and information technology. She credits her work ethic and passion to her Mother (Shirley) who was a trailblazer in VA and taught her the value of hard work.

I am an IT Specialist in the Office of Information and Technology Office of Communication and serve as the Web Communication Lead.
I am an Air Force brat who joined himself after high school. I served as a Biomedical Maintenance Technician for most of his 20-year career, with assignments in Germany, Arizona, Illinois, and Maryland. At the midpoint of his career, I had the unique opportunity to learn Russian and serve as an interpreter and chemical weapons inspector while assigned to the On-Site Inspection Agency supporting multilateral treaties with Russia. I participated in three of the five inspections that took place under the Wyoming Memorandum of Understanding — a precursor (no pun intended) to the Chemical Weapons Convention. After his service ended, I became a civil servant and worked in the Clinical Engineering branch of the Air Force Medical Logistics Office before joining VA in 2011.
I enjoy road trips, good food, and photography. My wife Rita and I have four children and two doodles (an Irish and a Sheepa).
