Claims Predators Fraud Prevention Campaign

What is VA doing related to “claims predators”? Veteran Benefits Administration (VBA) launched a communications campaign to address the topic of “claims predators”, which are defined as “bad actors” that try to unlawfully charge Veterans a fee to “help” them process their claims with the VA. They often use aggressive communication techniques to contact Veterans with promises of expedited claims processing times and higher disability ratings in exchange for high fees. VA urges Veterans to only use VA accredited attorneys, claims agents and Veterans Service Organization representatives when filing for benefits to protect their benefits and avoid unlawful fees.

VA is committed to ensuring all Veterans can safely and securely navigate the VA benefits process without falling victim to claims predators. If a Veteran suspects a representative acted unlawfully or unethically while assisting them in filing a VA benefits claim, they should file a report at VSAFE.gov or by calling 833-38V-SAFE.
