Reporting False Positives – Improve Your Scan Results

For VA staff working with the AMP tool for accessibility scanning. If you are receiving errors and after do research you find that this is likely a false positive, you can submit your issue to the team. They will investigate and if it is confirmed and can be addressed, the rule set will be modified.

Submissions Process

Users are responsible for reviewing their reports in VA Automating Scanning Organization. Below are instructions for the submission process if a user identifies a defect they believe is a false positive.  

  1. From the Report Dashboard, click on the link in the Top Issues widget.  The link in the widget will say “(see all issues detected)”, this link will also say the number of defect.   
  1. The page will refresh to the View All Instances report.  Users should now export this report to Excel by clicking the Excel button, located in the top right corner.  
  1. The user will review the Excel report and remove all defects except for the identified false positives.   
  1. In the excel report insert a column to the right of the “Note” column and name it “Rationale”. In this column provide the reasoning why the defect is considered a false positive.  
  1. When the report is completed submit it by to the Section508ScanHelpDesk@va.gov for review.   Also include a link to the AMP Report in the email.  

Section 508 Office Review  

  1. The Section 508 Office will review the submitted false positives.  Where a false positive is confirmed, it will be removed from the AMP Report in the VA Automated Scanning Organization.  Where a false positive is not confirmed, our SMEs will write additional information on why.   
  1. The Section 508 Office will return an updated copy of the report along with updated AMP report link and conformance score.  
  1. If needed the user can submit an additional request to meet with the Section 508 office to review the completed report by submitting the request to Section508ScanHelpDesk@va.gov.
